Taught by Dr. Sonya Doherty ND An introduction to the biomedical approach to treating patients with ASD
Autism 101 presented by Dr. Sonya Doherty ND
Autism Spectrum Disorder consists of neurological symptoms but also physiological symptoms that cause discomfort and pain. These symptoms are medical and medical symptoms should be assessed and treated.
Some physiological symptoms appear neurological. One example of a neurological symptom is head banging. There are those on the Autism Spectrum who have reported severe head pain that is so painful that the head banging gives an altered pain sensation.
Biomedical aspects of autism include the dysfunction in the digestive system with altered flora, imbalance in neurotransmitters, and lowered levels of antioxidants.
